He was a two-time all-league selection as a soccer player. The graduate of Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose lettered in football (Coach Dee Quinet) and soccer. He averaged 37.0 yards per punt in his only year of junior college competition. As the back-up placekicker a year ago, he made his only extra-point attempt of the season in the Southern Utah win.Ĭarr transferred to San Jose State from DeAnza College (Coach Ian MacKenzie) and became a punter. The opposition averaged only 4.4 yards per return – the best figure by a Spartan team since 1985. The Spartans ranked 25th nationally in net punting, in part due to Michael’s effectiveness. Carr is the first San Jose State punter in nine seasons to go an entire season without a punt blocked or deflected.
Michael Carr joined the Spartans last fall as a walk-on hopeful and won the punting job.
